Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Air fryer magic. In Greece, these potatoes are typically roasted in the oven. However, the air fryer offers a contemporary update, creating a dining experience that’s both true to tradition AND new and improved.
  • Tantalizing Greek flavor. Seasoning the potatoes with olive oil, lemon zest, garlic, and a medley of Greek seasoning enhances every bite with incredible flavor.
  • Crisp and creamy. Air frying offers an innovative way to cook crispy yet fork-tender potatoes as efficiently as standard oven-roasting techniques.
  • Crowd-pleasing side for all occasions. When you need a satisfying side dish for brunch, lunch, or dinner, these Greek potatoes are always a good idea -especially when air-fried!

Ingredients you’ll need

  • Baby potatoes. Select a potato variety that can absorb flavor while holding shape during cooking. I love using baby Dutch yellow potatoes, but you can use any baby or new potato variety, including Yukon gold, red, and fingerling.
  • Olive oil. Adds a rich Mediterranean element while contributing to a tender, creamy texture and a crispy, golden-brown exterior.
  • Fresh lemon zest. This is a staple ingredient in Greek cooking. It brightens the rich, savory flavors with a burst of citrus. Do NOT skip this!
  • Dried oregano. It adds a distinct herbaceous flavor often associated with Greek food. If you find Greek oregano, even better!
  • Garlic powder. The pleasant pungency enhances the other flavors.
  • Kosher salt and black pepper. Improves the overall flavor profile.
  • Feta cheese. It adds a layer of robust Mediterranean flavor and textural contrast.
  • Fresh dill and parsley. Fresh herbs are a hallmark of Greek cuisine. Again, do NOT skip this!
  • Lemon wedges and tzatziki. For serving. Keep reading for more serving suggestions.

Recipe tips

  • Chop potatoes evenly. Take your time cutting the potatoes into uniform 1½ inch chunks. This helps guarantee even cooking.
  • Preheat air fryer. This leads to crispier results because the exteriors start getting crispy the moment the potatoes make contact with the hot air fryer basket.
  • Shake the basket. Be sure to shake the basket around the 10-minute mark. This helps prevent sticking and achieve evenly crisped, golden-brown exteriors.
  • Refer to the user manual. The cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer model, so check the settings and ensure yours is adequately programmed for roasted baby potatoes. I tested this recipe with a Cosori air fryer.
  • Serve immediately. Greek potatoes are best enjoyed right out of the air fryer while still hot and crispy.

What to serve with Greek potatoes

This is an excellent side dish to serve with a feast of Greek favorites like grilled chicken souvlaki, a fresh Greek salad, and a side of tzatziki sauce for dipping. If you want to grab a store-bought tzatziki, Boars Head tzatziki is great for a quick option. Here are more dishes with Mediterranean influence to pair with Greek potatoes.

Storing & freezing

To store: Let the potatoes cool, place them in an airtight container, and store them in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.

To freeze: After cooling, flash-freeze the potatoes on a baking tray. Then, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container and store them in the freezer for up to 1 year.

FAQ

Do you peel potatoes before roasting them in the air fryer?

No. Peeling the potatoes is not recommended for this recipe. The baby potatoes’ paper-thin skin crisps up beautifully in the air fryer and helps the potatoes hold their shape.

How can you tell when Greek potatoes are done cooking?

The most reliable way to determine doneness is by gently inserting a fork into one of the pieces. The potatoes are most likely done if the fork goes in with minimal resistance. If they aren’t quite there, continue air frying until fork-tender.

How do you reheat leftover roasted potatoes in the air fryer?

The most efficient way to reheat leftover roasted potatoes in the air fryer so they stay crisp and creamy is at 375°F for 6-8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
