As soon as the weather warms up, I switch into fruit smoothie mode. In my opinion, there’s nothing more refreshing than a fresh fruit smoothie. Today’s smoothie of choice is a kiwi strawberry banana smoothie.
This strawberry kiwi banana smoothie takes 5 minutes to make and is full of flavor. It’s tart, sour, and sweet all at the same time. You’ll use Greek yogurt, almond milk, and frozen banana to achieve a thick, creamy consistency and flaxseed to boost fiber and nutrients. This protein and fiber-packed smoothie is a meal on its own.

- Greek Yogurt: I love using Greek yogurt as a base for fruit smoothies. It has a significant amount of protein and helps build a rich, creamy texture with a sweet and tangy taste.
- Almond Milk: I used unsweetened plain almond milk for this recipe. Vanilla almond milk, oat milk, and regular milk would also be a great options.
- Frozen Banana: You can grab a bag of frozen bananas from the freezer aisle, or freeze them yourself. Check the “recipe tips” for the best way to freeze fresh bananas.
- Frozen Strawberries: The benefit to using frozen strawberries over fresh is the guarantee they were picked at their prime. You can use fresh strawberries instead if strawberries are in season -just know your smoothie won’t be as frothy.
- Fresh Kiwi Fruit: Fresh kiwi is a superfood and fantastic source of vitamins and antioxidants. Look for blemish-free kiwi fruit that has a little give when you press into it. If it’s firm to the touch, the fruit isn’t quite ripe enough. If it’s mushy, it’s too ripe.
- Whey protein – gives smoothies a nourishing boost of protein, making them a nutrient-dense breakfast and a satisfying snack. I used unflavored whey protein, but vanilla and strawberry are great choices.
- Ground Flaxseed: Flaxseed increases essential vitamins and minerals while adding a subtle nutty flavor. You can also use chia seed here.
How To Make A Kiwi Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This fresh kiwi smoothie comes together in a cinch. Here’s how it’s done:
Step 1: Prep kiwi. Using a sharp knife, cut off the top end. Then, hold the kiwi upright, so it’s standing on the bottom end, and peel the skin downwards. Slice the fruit and discard the bottom end.
Step 2: Blend ingredients. Place the Greek yogurt, almond milk, frozen banana, frozen strawberries, sliced kiwi, whey protein, and flaxseed in a high-speed blender or Vitamix and blend until smooth and creamy (scraping down the sides as needed).
Step 3. Serve. Pour your strawberry kiwi banana smoothie into a glass and serve.

- Freezing banana for smoothies – I love having frozen bananas on hand for smoothies. To freeze fresh bananas, place whole, peeled bananas on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Set in the freezer until frozen solid. Then, transfer the frozen bananas to a freezer-safe resealable bag and freeze for up to 6 months.
- Use fresh & frozen fruit – Some of each makes it easier to blend.
If you prefer a thinner consistency, replace the Greek yogurt with almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk (you can also use some of each).
Variations
Fruit possibilities – Using the ingredient measurements as a guide, feel free to mix and match different fruits with the kiwi and strawberry. Avocado, pineapple, peach, mango, blueberries, and cantaloupe taste great in Greek yogurt and banana-based smoothies.
Add greens – Add a handful of baby spinach leaves, chopped kale, or swiss chard and blend with the other ingredients until smooth.
Optional sweetener – Stevia, honey, maple syrup, molasses, and date syrup are great refined sugar-free options.
Dairy-free/vegan – Replace the Greek yogurt with any non-dairy yogurt, and be sure to use a plant-based protein powder.

Storing: Keep leftover smoothie in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy within 1 to 2 days.
Freezing: You can store your smoothie in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months. Just know the texture won’t be quite the same once thawed.
Recipe FAQ
Kiwi skin is edible and full of fiber. Feel free to add a small amount for the fiber, but not too much, as it’s super tart and bitter.
To prepare your smoothie ahead of time, place all ingredients in a gallon-size freezer bag and keep frozen. When you’re craving a smoothie, let the ingredients thaw just enough that they can be poured into a blender and blended until smooth.
Greek yogurt is my go-to, and I often to a combination of both. It makes thick, creamy smoothies and adds protein. However, milk is also good in smoothies if you prefer a thinner consistency. Just keep in mind that you’ll need more frozen fruit or ice to get a good smoothie consistency.

- 28 g unflavored whey protein vanilla is another great option. If it's presweetened you can skip the extra stevia.
