Grinch Fruit Kabobs
Christmas Grinch fruit kabobs are easy to make and make a great healthier alternative to all of the decadent desserts during the holidays. I made these fun little guys for the kids to enjoy and decorate for a snack. I also happen to be a huge Dr. Seuss fan! This recipe can double as an entertaining craft. You can use a tube of chocolate frosting and let kids draw their own angry Grinch faces on the green grapes.
This snack is a fun holiday recipe idea that I got from Pinterest. Most recipes call for a slice of banana for the base of the hat, but my husband hates bananas and I didn’t have any in the house, so I used a large marshmallow and cut it into thirds with a pair of kitchen scissors. It worked out perfectly!
I love making healthy festive fruit kabobs. You can skewer green grapes, and honeydew melon for a festive St. Patrick’s Day kabob, and this Peep Fruit Kabob post from 2014 is one of my most pinned Easter recipes! Clearly, people love enjoying fruit on a stick!
Ingredients you’ll need
- Kabob skewers– for assembling these cute festive snacks
- Marshmallows– you’ll need a bag of large marshmallows and a bag of small mini marshmallows
- Strawberries– look for bright red ripe fresh strawberries for the best flavor and texture. Make sure to wash and pat them dry before assembling the snacks.
- Grapes– you’ll need green grapes for making the Grinch faces
- Optional– a black edible marker or black icing for drawing faces
Steps for making the cutest Grinch fruit kabobs
Step 1. Thread a grape onto the kabob skewer
Step 2. Cut a large marshmallow into thirds with kitchen scissors, then slide a slice of marshmallow onto the stick.
Step 3. Slice the top off a strawberry and thread it onto the skewer, large side first.
Step 4. Top with a mini marshmallow. Serve plain or decorate with and edible marker or frosting.
Tips and variations
You can use a banana slice under the strawberry for the “hat”, but know that they will start to brown when made in advance. If you use bananas, it’s best to make these right before serving to keep them really fresh. If you need to make them in advance, spritz them with citrus juice (lemon, lime, or orange), wrap them in plastic wrap (to avoid oxidation), and store them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. Also using a slightly underripe banana with a firm texture can help. These things won’t prevent browning but it can definitely help to slow the process.
The marshmallows will be best if they are assembled the day of serving them. I would assemble the grapes on the skewers and slice the marshmallows the day before and just pop the strawberry and marshmallow hat on them the next day.
Storing
Fresh fruit kabobs are always best when prepared and enjoyed the same day, but you can store them for up to 24 hours. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and store them in an airtight refrigerator container.

Will the marshmallows stay fresh in the fridge overnight if I assemble the night before? Thanks!
Hi Alicia!
Sorry for the delayed response, I just had surgery so I didn’t see it right away. The marshmallows will be best if they are assembled the day of serving them. I would assemble the grapes on the skewers and slice the marshmallows the day before and just pop the strawberry and marshmallow hat on them the next day. Hope that helps!
If u sing the banana slices for the base of the hat, how best do you suggest to keep the bananas from going brown?
Hi Lori! I use cut marshmallows instead of a banana. If you want to use bananas, it’s best to make these right before serving to keep them really fresh.
Does the lemon juice change the taste
If you are using bananas, then yes, the lemon juice will affect the taste. I prefer to just use the marshmallows or use a slightly underripe firm banana and assemble them right before serving.
