Tried out a @hotworx class for a good sweaty #recoverysesh this morning at the @hotworxballantyne near my house. One of our awesome physical therapists, Andrea, at @fightbackpr helping me straighten out an issue with my serratus and the muscles around my right scapula. I was dealing with this nagging pain before my most recent #breastreconstruction surgery (in Sept) to move my implants over the muscle and sew my pec muscle back down to my chest wall (best decision ever!) but it’s back since my activity level has increased to my normal training routine. My recent MRI results were clear of cancer (🙌👏)so I know that the pain issue is likely scar tissue adhesions, nerve impingement or rib misalignment (or all of the above). Luckily, I’m in great hands with my coworkers to get this body straightened out! Which brings me to a very important message for all of my fellow #breastcancer previvors, thrivers and survivors. If your medical team has not referred you to physical therapy after your procedures, please don’t hesitate to ask for a referral. I’m so shocked at how many fighters are not offered this option as part of the recovery process. It makes such a difference in the healing process to get you back to moving as pain-free as possible! I started physical therapy two weeks after my #bilateralmastectomy in 2016 to begin working on rebuilding my range of motion and strength. Of course, there will be exceptions depending on the type of treatment and procedures performed but #physicaltherapy #lymphaticmassage and exercise is an invaluable part of the treatment process.
