Organic gardening is so much fun! I love tending my organic garden this time of year. Everything is growing rapidly and we are loving our daily harvest of fresh, organic produce.
This spring we planted lot of organic vegetables and herbs:
- organic beets
- green beans
- hot peppers (banana and jalapeno)
- several different tomato varieties (including a couple of heirloom plants),
- Greek oregano
- catnip (kitties love it!!)
So far, we have enjoyed everything but the tomatoes, okra and beets, which are still in the ripening stages.
Great picks for our organic gardening today…. organic cucumbers, hot peppers, and beans!
My husband and I love figs. I decided to plant my own tree in May 2011. We didn’t have much fruit last season. What did ripen, the birds enjoyed before we did. I have been anxious for fresh figs for cooking, baking and eating straight from the tree.
This tree has grown like a weed!!! Here is my Fig tree now….
It’s amazing how much fruit we are getting this year! Fig trees apparently love our Georgia red clay dirt!
Notice the barrier in the two photos? Apparently, our dog, Brownie, likes figs, too. 😉 He started eating the branches, so we had to protect our little tree. I am looking forward to creating fig recipes in the future. As for Brownie, he’s happy with the job of watch dog for now.
My two favorite products for organic gardening are Neem oil, for safe and effective garden pest control and Miracle Grow Organic plant food concentrate.
My garden loves this stuff!! I spray my garden once a week to keep it healthy and happy.
