Back to school is always a hectic time. The lazy days of summer are sadly over and a new yearly grind begins. Making simple and nutritious lunches for your kids shouldn’t be daunting. There are so many creative and easy ways that you can energize them with good fuel for the day. Healthy eating should be delicious AND appetizing!
My kids love the tasty organic snacks from Horizon. I’ve partnered with them to share some fun solutions to make lunchtime tasty and enjoyable. Horizon offers a wide range of snacks, that are kid-friendly and mom-approved. I’ve paired some of the Horizon products with a few of my kid’s favorite lunch foods.
Meat roll-ups are one of my daughter’s favorite lunch proteins. I just take different meats like ham, roast beef, chicken or turkey and roll it up with a Horizon organic cheese stick and wrap it with a slice of butter lettuce or romaine. You can add mayo, mustard, pickles or any other favorite garnishes to jazz it up.
Grapes also keep well, so they are another lunchbox staple. Pair with Horizon cheddar sandwich crackers and bottled water and you’ve got a tasty meal.
Another go-to for us are roll-up sandwiches. I love the protein-enriched whole grain wraps and flatbread also works great. Spread with a little mayo and/or mustard, sliced lunch meat, baby spinach and tomato. I make these the night before, wrap in plastic wrap and slice in the morning.
Here, I’ve paired a wrap with sugar snap peas, a mandarin orange and these tasty Horizon cinnamon snack grahams. There are so many sandwich roll-up variations that you can make, you can even do them with peanut butter, banana and honey on a whole grain wrap. Healthier PB & J’s are also great, just spread nut butter on a whole grain wrap and top with sliced, ripe berries. Super tasty!
A few great lunch box veggie options are sliced carrots, raw broccoli and cauliflower, sliced peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes with hummus or ranch for dipping.
